2011 Field Day Report

This was our first club Field Day event, and, I have to say, I do believe that those of us that participated had fun! I do encourage others to show up and get involved.

Thanks to Bruce KE5VIC for taking the lead on this event, and providing most of the equipment.

Here are some images of us set up in the parking lot, at The Woodlands Fire Department Central Fire Station parking lot:

Documented visitors 12, visiting amateurs about 10 =22 Attendees manning or assisting set-up tear-down 6

Bonus points 600 for 100%gen power, media, public location, info table,ARES coordinator with hand outs and a GOTA station.

It was very hot with high humidity. My heat gauge said 110 corrected temp.

The 2m ssb station did not operate due to antenna problems. The wifi was out because I forgot to bring the USB adapter.

Patrick N5PAR and Chuck N5GCQ did most of the HF contacts.

Peter KE5STL set up a APRS station, also fabricated/soldered the cables on the spot!

Lucy Stern was kind enough to provide a brand new canopy. Doug Lewis brought his canopy and helped set-up/tear-down.

Rud K5RUD brought ARES handouts for the info table.

Brad Carlson KZ5W made some CW contacts with a QRP station he brought along.

Each visitor received a Club handout, a QST and Ares info.

John Stratton vp Director ARRL West Gulf div came by for an hour or so.

The Houston Chronicle-Woodlands Edition came by and took several photos.

Not sure if or when it will be printed.

I would say we had a successful first Field Day.

Thanks to everyone involved. Next year will be even better.
